Partnership for Peace and Community Development, an NGO, has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to inject funds into solar energy development in the northern part of the country.

Mr Muhammad Abbah-Sada, the Convener of the group, made the call during a news conference to appreciate the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for the policies he introduced in agriculture, forex and e-Naira.

“After holistic appraisal of the issues and the pros and cons of the policies, the CBN Governor has recently embarked upon in order to stem the tides of the free fall of the Naira with a view to strengthen our national currency and stabilise the economy,

“We’ve come to the bitter realisation that Mr Godwin Emefiele has boldly stepped on the toes of some powerful individuals who have been benefitting from the old opaque and corrupt system that was wreaking havoc on the Nigerian economy for so long,” he said.

While commending the CBN, he called on the apex bank to remain focused to implement its reforms especially in the areas of agriculture and forex.

“As we appreciate the CBN Governor and his giant strides towards making the CBN stand the test of time in our noble country, we wish to appeal to him to remain focused and undeterred because the Nigerian people are happy with the reforms he’s doing, especially in the area of agriculture and forex.

“We ask that you do not relent in your effort but rather use your good office to look at other areas of the economy by injecting more funds into solar energy in the North to ensure power in order to grow our industries,” he urged.

He said that through the activities of CBN, Nigeria exited from the recession which informed the reappointment of Emefiele as the governor of the bank by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Another important point to note is the fact that the new policies of the CBN have breasted the tape of challenges associated with the old opaque policies.

“Saying this has caused a stir from the enemies of Nigeria who don’t want to see change and progress because of their perfidious desire and self-centred material aggrandisement.

“The Governor has remained true to course by sanitising the apex bank and addressing commercial banks issues in order to protect the interest of Nigerians,” the group noted.

Abbah-Sada said that they were mindful of their responsibilities to the public and thus “cannot fold our arms and watch few individuals hold the rest of the country to ransom”.

He noted that obnoxious policies had succeeded in alienating the vast majority of the country’s compatriots from benefiting from the potential of the country.

The convener, however, called on all patriots to join hands with the CBN governor in freeing Nigerians from the shackles of economic saboteurs and unpatriotic Nigerians dragging us back. (NAN)
