A Human Rights group, has issued a warning to skit makers, urging them to refrain from ridiculing Islamic ethics and values.
In a press release obtained by Daily News 24, , Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent any potential negative consequences.
According to the press release, skit makers have been exploiting the attention of netizens by involving unsuspecting citizens, inconveniencing innocent bystanders, job seekers, and even vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and the sick.
The recent viral video showing a veiled woman being threatened was cited as an example of the dangers that skit makers expose innocent citizens to.
Sulaymon A. Tadese, Director General of the organization, stated, “We also call on the government to regulate the use of social media and skit making to avoid a breakdown of law and order.”
The organization stressed the importance of respecting the dignity and exceptional nature of individuals, particularly women in veils, who deserve to be treated with reverence.
The organization hoped that recent arrest of a skit maker who pranked a niqabite will serve as a deterrent to others who disregard the modesty and regulations required in their craft.
