At least 43 people have been reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in Kakidawa, Gidan Goga district, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the attack occurred early on Sunday around 2 a.m. when heavily armed men stormed the village, firing sporadically into the air.

The sound of the gunfire caused panic, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes, while the assailants conducted a house-to-house search, abducting women and children who were unable to escape.

Community leaders reported that, up until now, the kidnappers have not made any contact with the victims’ families to demand a ransom.

In a response to inquiries, Yazid Abubakar, the Zamfara State Police spokesperson, stated that he had not yet been briefed about the incident.

This attack marks another alarming case in the growing trend of kidnappings for ransom in Nigeria’s northern region, where insecurity continues to deeply affect local communities.
