Retired General Manager of the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA GM), Bashir M Abdullahi, has been abducted in Kano.

Abdullahi was abducted from his farm located at Gomo village of Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State Wednesday afternoon.

A resident of Gomo village said the retired NPA GM was taken away by the gunmen while he was inspecting the farm in Gomo village.

When contacted, the Kano Police Command spokesperson, DSP Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, said he was not aware of the incident, but promised to verify and get back as quickly as possible, Daily Trust reports.

NPA to encourage women employees, says Habib

Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA GM), Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has said that the organisation is gender sensitive and will continue to give women employees all necessary support and encouragement.

Mallam Abdullahi disclosed this while receiving the executive members of Women in Logistics and Transport [WILAT] Nigeria led by its President, Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim, in his office last Friday.

“It is a thing of joy that one of our own, Hajia Ali-Ibrahim, triggered the establishment of the body in Nigeria. It is a moral responsibility on our part to support you. We are gender sensitive. We will give you all the support and encouragement you require”, Abdullahi said.

Earlier, the President of WILAT, who doubles as the Traffic Manager of Tin Can Island Port, Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim, had thanked the Managing Director and his team for the roles played by the by NPA in the establishment of WILAT in Nigeria and for other support through sponsorship of members for training and seminars.

While promising that WILAT members will continue to be good ambassadors of the country, she appealed for more training sponsorship that will provide networking opportunities for women.

The WILAT President was accompanied by the General Manager, Business Development and Joint Venture Division, Mrs Ugo Madubuike, Assistant General Manager, Personnel, Mrs Mohammed, Asst. General Manager, Administration., Mrs Fayemiwo, and a member of board of Trustees, Mrs Julie Ogboru, among others.

In a separate development, the Managing Director of NPA, Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has assured stakeholders in the maritime industry that the agency is fully committed to the ideals of high quality service delivery.

The NPA boss gave the assurance while declaring open a one-day seminar on Excellent Service Delivery in an Organization for Senior Management staff of the Authority put together by the Servicom Department recently in Apapa, Lagos.

Represented by the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Olumide Oduntan, the NPA helmsman told participants that the management is determined to ensure that Nigerian ports become the hub in West and Central Africa.

He charged all employees to change their attitude and work culture so that the efforts to reposition NPA will be meaningful and sustainable.

“There is no organization without people, any complaint about Nigerian Ports Authority is complaint about the people in NPA, you must be proud to make improvement on your desk, lectures and presentations do not really matter, what you do at your individual departments is what matters, commit yourself to a better service delivery and let the organisation feel your impact”, Oduntan told the participants.

He urged the Servicom Department to embark on staff sensitisation programmes to inculcate the habit of providing efficient, effective and timely service to customers.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the General Manager Servicom, Mallam Bashir Abdullahi disclosed that his department had visited port locations outside Lagos for sensitisation exercise which he described as very successful. He said the entire workforce of NPA will be re-awakened for better service delivery.
