An attack, Wednesday night, by unknown gunmen reportedly left at least three policemen dead in Enugu State.

The incident happened at Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu North Local Government Area of the State, Daily Post reports.

A source hinted that the gunmen, driving in a Lexus Jeep, overtook the hilux van of the policemen and opened fire on them.

“They caught the officers off guard; shot them on target,” the source disclosed.

Three of the officers were said to have died as a result of gunshot wounds.

The whereabouts of the fourth policeman remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the development, the Enugu Police Command vowed to track down the assailants.

In a terse statement made available to newsmen, Enugu Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe said: “Intensive manhunt operation is ongoing to fish out the unknown assailants who, operating in a Lexus Jeep, suddenly opened fire on a moving Police patrol van on duty, along Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu, on 07/09/2022 at about 10.15pm, leading to three (3) of the Operatives sustaining severe gunshots wounds.

“Further developments will be communicated, please.”
