The Hadejia Emirate Council in Jigawa has begun the 2022 Zakkat (alms) distribution with 150 needy, each receiving N10,000 cash.
The Emirate’s Spokesperson, Alhaji Muhammad Talaki, made this known in a statement in Dutse.
Talaki said the Chairman of the Zakkat Collection and Distribution Committee of the council, Alhaji Abdulfatah Abdulwahab, disclosed this at the inauguration of the exercise in Hadejia on Tuesday.
He explained that in his inaugural speech, the Emir of Hadejia Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, urged wealthy individuals in the area to give out Zakkat in support of the needy.
The spokesperson added that Abubakar expressed dismay that businessmen didn’t give out Zakkat like farmers in the area.
According to him, the emir reminds the businessmen that Zakkat is one of the pillars of Islam and compulsory on every able Muslim.
Talaki further quoted the emir as urging the benefiaries to make good use of the money received.
He recalled that the emirate in 2021, distributed Zakkat of N133 million worth of cash, livestock and grains to more than 20,000 vulnerable people in the area.
