At the continuation of the murder case of 5 year old Hanifa Abubakar who was allegedly kidnapped and killed by her school proprietor, the prosecution counsel presented witnesses against the defendants at a Kano high court today.

A witness, Inspector Ubale Usman of the Anti-Kidnapping squad of the Nigerian Police Force in Kano stated that following a report by the deceased parent on December 4th 2021, an investigation into the matter commenced.

Inspector Usman said the accused, Abdulmalik Tanko personally confessed to kidnapping and killing the five year old with rat poison and that her corpse was buried in a sac at North West preparatory school.

“I personally had an interview with Abdulmalik Tanko where he said he singlehandedly abducted Hanifa after she closed from her islamiyya school on 4th December 2021”. He said.

The the witness presented 4 phones, a medical report of the victim, a photocopy of the victims picture, the sum of N30,300, a shovel, Hanifa’s badge, hijab, cardigan, pictures of the scene where the defendant buried Hanifa amongst other evidences against the accused, before Justice Usman Na’Abba.

After cross examination of the witness by the defense counsel led by Barrister Mukhtar Labaran Usman, the prosecution counsel led by Barrister Musa Lawan pleaded that the court adjourn the case till 3rd March 2021.

Speaking to Journalists, Barr. Lawan assured the case will be prosecuted in the shortest time, stating that the case should not take more than a week or two before it is completed, as four more witnesses will testify before the court on 3 March 2021.

Daily News24 reports that Journalists were earlier barred from the courtroom while officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) testified against the defendants.
