A Kano State High Court has issued an interim injunction barring 19 political parties from obstructing the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) in its efforts to organize and conduct the upcoming local government elections.
Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji made the ruling on Tuesday after a motion ex parte was filed on September 20 by KANSIEC, which is the plaintiff in the case.

The defendants include the Accord Party, Action Alliance, Labour Party, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and several other political parties.
In his ruling, Justice Ma’aji stated, “The defendants are restrained from taking any actions that would impede the plaintiff’s statutory duties to organise, conduct, regulate and supervise the local government election in Kano State, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
The judge also prohibited the defendants, including their agents and privies, from performing any acts that could disrupt KANSIEC’s election oversight activities. The case has been adjourned until October 10 for the hearing of the motion on notice.
