Malam Aminu Umar Kofar Mazugal, a civil servant working with the Kano State Government, returned a bag containing over N40 million in U.S. dollars to its rightful owner at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano.
The bag, owned by Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, was inadvertently left in the hospital’s parking lot near a mosque.

Mohammed, who had briefly sat near the mosque before rushing to catch a flight, forgot the bag as he left the area.
Malam Umar, an employee at the hospital and a resident of Dala Local Government Area, discovered the bag while clearing the pavements with his colleagues. Upon finding it, he immediately secured the bag and waited for the owner’s return.
“One hour after I found the bag, the owner came back and described the bag. I handed it over to him immediately,” Umar said.
Alhaji Mohammed, upon receiving the bag, expressed his gratitude for Umar’s honesty and offered him a monetary reward. However, Umar declined the offer and instead provided his phone number, with Mohammed promising to reach out to him after his return from abroad.
Dr. Aminu Imam Yola, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, confirmed the incident and praised Umar’s exemplary conduct. “His actions reflect integrity, and the hospital management has submitted his name to the Kano State Hospitals Management Board for formal recognition,” Dr. Yola stated.
