Napoli advanced to the Champions League knockout stages with two games to spare after a rousing 4-2 victory over Ajax on Wednesday maintained their unblemished start to the season.
Hirving Lozano, Giacomo Raspadori, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Victor Osimhen’s goals have helped Luciano Spalletti’s side to four wins from four games and a perfect 12 points at the top of Group A.
The Serie A leaders are nine points ahead of third-placed Ajax, who can still make the playoffs with two wins in their final two games against Liverpool and Rangers.
Alfred Schreuder’s team played much better than they did in last week’s 6-1 thrashing by Napoli in Amsterdam, and they kept the game alive until the final seconds thanks to Davy Klaassen and Steven Bergwijn.
But they couldn’t stop an unstoppable Napoli team that has yet to lose a game in Italy or on the continent this season and had a packed Stadio Maradona dreaming that this could be their year.
