The Nigerian Police Force is alleged to have neglected a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who was kidnapped by terrorists on his way to report to his new duty post.

Daily News 24 reports that the officer, CSP Mohammed Gyadi-Gyadi, was kidnapped on the morning of June 27, 2022, while driving to the Police Division in Birnin Gwari town in Kaduna state.

In a phone conversation, the victim’s brothers voiced disappointment at the Nigerian Police Force’s alleged failure to take the tragedy seriously weeks after it occurred.

The Officer, who is said to be suffering from serious health issues, need medical attention at the moment while the kidnappers insist that the sum of N80 million must be paid before he could be released.

Initially, the kidnappers demanded for a whooping N250 million while negotiations with the relations brought the amount down to N80 million.

His relative, Bashir Sulaiman described how the family had contacted the police about the officer’s release and expressed displeasure with the Kaduna police’s alleged lack of sensitivity after meeting with the commissioner of police multiple times.

“On our first visit to the CP he assured me that the Police Force is making efforts to ensure that Muhammad is released. He explained that there is arrangement for the kidnappers to be tracked and attacked to free him, but nothing has taken place, three months now.

“Having been reaching out to the kidnappers and negotiating for his release we asked the police force to help us with the money to get him released but the plea fell in deaf ears.

“I was even confidentially informed that the issue of the kidnap had never again been mentioned at any of the conferences of the police since the first time it was announced.

“The IG had been written three times, in fact there are those that have taken the matter before him but nothing has changed.

“In fact with the way I see things at the Police Command in Kaduna, there is nothing taking place to save the life of this innocent officer. I happen to be the only person going up and down to see to his release without any support from the police in particular” Bashir stated.

They expressed extreme worry because of the health of both the victim and their old father who is seriously hypertensive.

Describing the health of the victim, he stated that the last time they were allowed to speak to him he was suffering persistent anal bleeding in addition to his diabetic condition.

The victims relations finally called on all and sundry to raise a voice to ensure the release and freedom of CSP Muhammad Gyadi-gyadi.
