The Caretaker Chairman of the Nigeria Police Weightlifting Association, DSP Briggs Asigoboka, is full of praises for the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, for approving the maiden edition of the IGP National Open Weightlifting Championship.
Highly elated Asigoboka told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that the competition was “a dream come true“.
According to her, the championship is fully supported by the IGP to enhance the development of the game in Nigeria.

“Our IGP is doing well, we are all proud of him, this competition is a dream come true.
“I have been dreaming that a competition like this will announce the police, especially in weightlifting.
“ I`m very happy about what is happening now and I pray God will keep everyone of us so that the event will succeed,” she said.
Asigoboka said the championship would be an annual event, adding that the next edition would be more glamorous than this year’s.
“The IGP said it was going to be annual event; we trust and we take him for his word. We believe him. God will help him; he started it and he will keep it going,” she said.
The caretaker chair advised participants to be focused in the championship, adding this would be a stepping stone for them to move high.
“They should keep it up. I know that this is a booster for them and by the next edition it will be more challenging.
“They should put more efforts to see that they come up with good results, good records that will make them and announce them in this nation,” she said.
Asigoboka said the championship would help to discover lifters that would represent the country in future competitions.
“We are hoping to dig out talents that have been hidden for a very long while we are hoping to get athletes that we will join the national team and travel out and make this nation proud,” she said.
She said: “It’s not only police officers that are participating, we have some states that are with us and some agencies that also joined us.“
NAN reports that Nigeria Police Weightlifting Association, in collaboration with NWF, organised the ongoing maiden edition of IGP National Open Weightlifting Championship.
The championship, tagged ‘Abuja 2021’, kicked off on Nov. 8 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and will end on Nov. 12.
