The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara, has trained 32 staff on distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to the public for the 2023 general election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Attahiru Madami, made this known when declaring open a two-day workshop in Ilorin on Friday.
Madami who was represented by the Head of Department, General Administration and Procurement, Mr Ibrahim Abdulazeez, said the training is significant is targeted towards ensuring that the commission delivers on its mandate.
According to him, firstly, one of our mandates is to ensure that the PVC gets to the general public.
“The PVC is significant because of the yardstick allotment to ballot papers during election.
“We know that in the previous elections, ballot papers are allotted to polling units based on the registered voters.
“But this time around the commission has set that the numbers of PVCs collected in a particular polling unit will determine the number of ballot papers that will be giving to the polling unit.
“The use of BVAS for voting in 2023 election will stop people without PVC from going there to cause violence.
“Without PVC you cannot vote, in short no PVC no vote.
“The commission set all these measures to ensure effective distribution of the PVCs,” he said.
He advised the participants to listen and contribute to the training, saying that it is a participatory training.
He urged the participants to be focused because they were carefully selected based on their experience and competence. (NAN)
