Kola Abiola, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, has criticized the security agencies for their ineffectiveness in combating insecurity in the country.
Abiola spoke at a town hall meeting hosted by AriseTV in Lagos State.
According to him, the country’s security architecture is deteriorating as a result of the insecurity.
He emphasized that the National Security Council’s failure to convene a meeting since 1999 has exacerbated the situation.
“The security issue is just one of the problems we have,” the PRP candidate explained, “and there is a need to address true security architecture.”
“The National Security Council, which governs Nigeria’s security situation, has not met for a single day since 1999.” It is constantly exiting the architecture to run the country’s defense.
“The National Security Adviser’s office is disorganized, which has spilled over into the economy.” Also, as you mentioned, the biggest problem we have is that the average Nigerian has not felt the presence of the government, which is why the government has collapsed.
“Recall how security used to begin with local chiefs and police, but a breakdown in trust has led to security issues.” Because the leadership is viewed as the same as the bandits, trust has been lost.
“We have never implemented the system itself, and if you look back at the structures outside of the police and security systems, we have the immediate manpower to solve it in the short run.”
