Floods have destroyed at least eleven communities in Jigawa State’s Ringim Local Government Area.
Hon. Shehu Sule Udi, the chairman of the local government, revealed this in an interview with journalists at the Ringim IDP camp.
He claimed that floods had ravaged and displaced the communities, killing many people and destroying hundreds of houses, farmlands, and other properties as a result of the Tiga dam’s overflow.
He explained that floods had devastated Dabi, Majiyawa, Dingare, Gabarin, Yandutse, Malamawar, Cori, Gujaba, Sankara, Auramo, Garin Gada, and other communities.
Udi stated that the victims had been evacuated and relocated to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Ringim and Gerawa.
He also stated that the local government had provided them with food, safe drinking water, and medication.
The council chairman, on the other hand, urged the state and federal governments, as well as other individuals, to come to the aid of the victims as soon as possible.
Malam Ibrahim, a flood victim in Majiyawa village, said the flood destroyed their homes and all of their belongings, including food.
According to the DAILY POST, eight people were confirmed dead and five others were injured as a result of a canoe mishap in the Local Government.
