Journalist hit by object suspected to be ‘stray bullet’ at Kano Gov’t House

A journalist serving with the Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) has been hit by an object suspected to be a stray bullet at the Kano State Government House in the heart of Kano city.

The journalist, Naziru Idris, who confirmed the incident to Daily News 24, said he was hit by the object on Friday at around 8:30pm, after returning from an assignment with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Mr Idris said he, and other colleagues had been asked to wait for another function and were gisting when the object hit his shoulder.

It was gathered that Mr Idris was rushed to the Government House clinic, where he was treated for minor injuries and discharged.

However, the source of the object could not be identified at the time of the incident.

It was learnt that the government house security officials had retrieved the object and were analyzing it in order to identify its origin.

But the Government House officials have not yet issued any statement on the incident.

Daily News 24 observed that the incident happened on May 3, the World Press Freedom Day, which is marked by the United Nations to highlight the dangers journalists face in the course of their job.
