Famous Islamic cleric, Dr Idris Abdulazeez’s comment on Kannywood ’s practitioners has sparked serious debate among fans of the Hausa filmmaking industry and practitioners.

The Bauchi State-based cleric, in one of his lectures, said the filmmakers ‘are not religious’.

When the video of the cleric’s lecture went viral in almost social media, some of the industry’s practitioners began to react to his assertion, According to Daily trust.

Sadiq Sani Sadiq, a Kannywood actor who often avoids engaging in discussions about the business on social media, created a video denouncing the cleric’s claim.

Sadiq said he is happy to be part of the film industry and that he intended to live out his remaining days as an actor.

“It is regrettable that someone claiming to be an Islamic scholar would make such a statement.

“I owe my current success to my work in movies, and if my kids choose to follow in my footsteps, I’ll let them.

”Until I pass away, I want to continue living the life of an actor. I don’t regret being in Kannywood at all,” he stated.

Musbahu Ahmad, another actor and singer in the business, also made a video criticizing the priest for looking down on the entertainment business.

He argued that the cleric’s remark was inappropriate and inconsistent with the Islamic doctrine.

“Do you want a religious leader to come to you? What are your plans for him or her? We felt bad that someone claiming to be a leader was making such snide remarks. I will suggest that the sheikh focus on imparting Islamic theology rather than his recent activities”, Ahmad stated.

Another Popular Actor and Singer, Adam Zango also reacted saying; “The sector needs significant reorganization.
“If filmmaking is not the proper road for me, I have prayed to God for a professional change for more than ten years, but he has kept me getting more adept at it”, Zango added.

”The clergyman was correct”, according to JBoy, a practitioner who lives in Jos, the capital of the Plateau State, and those criticizing him were acting out of self-interest.

He added that it is true that the practitioners are not religious and claimed that Kannywood has been a center for numerous tragedies.

“We have to be honest with ourselves; what we are doing is irrelevant, and nobody can make the people forget that.

“The industry is full of individuals with a variety of shady personalities who require spiritual guidance. The cleric’s remarks are just the truth, and we must accept them as such.

“I’m praying to God for a safe landing in this business. I don’t want to pass away in this business. God is aware that we have deviated”, he continued.

Since the cleric’s video went viral, a number of people have participated in discussions on the subject. While some people support his claim, others are criticizing his view on the film industry.

The clergyman, however, maintained his stand and begged for the salvation of those who disagreed with him in a new video.
