After extensive stakeholders meeting and due deliberations, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has anointed the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, as the preferred choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 governorship election and the immediate past Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, Murtala Sule Garo, as his running mate in the election.
This is a step in the right direction giving the circumstances. Governor Ganduje must have had some expensive considerations before arriving at this decision; this include the mood of the state, acceptability and party affairs.
It was a difficult choice considering the governor’s huge performance in the last seven years. No governor may wish to see his lifetime achievements destroyed after leaving office or afford to lose election to the opposition despite the enormous commitment he has made.

The choice of Gawuna and Garo is based on the questions of who will continue to unify the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje leave office in 2023, who has the perseverance to defy all odds, including distractions, to build up on the governor’s gains and who has the technical knowhow to take Kano State to the next level.
These and many more brought the choice of Gawuna and Garo to the fore. However, the question of giving back to youths has been addressed.
Governor Ganduje is so smart that by fielding Gawuna and Garo to bear the party’s flag in the 2023 governorship election in Kano State he has solved a significant percentage of the possible succession crisis that may have rocked the APC in the state; and he has dashed the hope of the opposition parties in the state that lurk somewhere to see the governor stumble in choosing a successor.
It is well known that Gawuna has been diplomatic and gentlemanly all his political career, as Garo is loyal, trustworthy and steadfast. These qualities, among others, convinced Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje that the duo are the best candidates for the job.
Another, both Nasir Yusuf Gawuna and Murtala Sule Garo have maintained a mutual relationship. This relationship has grown so strong that Gawuna’s followership has melted into that of Garo; and Garo’s camp is an extension of the Deputy Governor’s popularity.
With Gawuna and Garo it is a landslide victory for APC in the 2023 governorship election in Kano in sha Allah.
