Residents of CBN Quarters on Hadejia Road, Kano, were shocked on Saturday as a 60-year-old man, Sabi’u Yusha’u Unguwa Uku, tragically drowned after slipping into an abandoned well.

The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

He explained that the victim was driving a car belonging to the first wife of the Minister of Defence. After dropping off guests at a nearby house, Uku stepped out of the vehicle to urinate, unaware of the abandoned well and debris in the area.

“The cover of the well caved in, causing him to slip and fall into the abandoned well,” Abdullahi explained.

Abdullahi further stated that a rescue team led by Hassan Ahmad Muhammad quickly responded to the emergency call, arriving at the scene within 15 minutes. “Unfortunately, the victim, who was rescued unconscious, was later pronounced dead on arrival at Sir Sunusi Hospital,” he said.

The body was then handed over to CPL Faruku Musa of the Dakata Police Division for further investigation.
