President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of governing councils and boards for federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria, with notable appointments including significant representation from Kano State.
Daily News 24 reports that Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the former Kano APC Gubernatorial candidate, has been appointed as the chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University Kano.

This key appointment places Gawuna at the helm of one of Nigeria’s prominent universities, underscoring the president’s commitment to involving experienced leaders in educational governance.
In addition to Gawuna’s appointment, the reconstitution includes other prominent figures. Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, former minister of communications, has been named chairman of the Governing Council of David Umahi University of Medicine in Ebonyi State. Chief Bisi Akande, former governor of Osun State and the first chairman of the All Progressives Congress, will oversee the University of Ibadan Governing Council.
These appointments reflect President Tinubu’s strategic approach to enhancing the administration of higher education institutions nationwide.
