A newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned over the weekend beside a car on a street in the Yar Akwa area of Naibawa community, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.
The infant was found by a group of men who were relaxing at a nearby tea joint when they heard her cries. An eyewitness, Shamsuddeen Sabiu, shared how the baby was discovered.

“Initially, we thought it was a cat mewing, but when we rushed to the spot, we saw two security men who had already rescued the baby and asked us to lead them to the house of the ward head because they were new in the area; which we did,” Sabiu recounted.
He also mentioned that the baby was found with clothes and pampers, suggesting that the mother had made some preparations before abandoning her.
The Ward Head of Yar Akwa, Jamilu Abba Danladi, confirmed receiving the baby and expressed gratitude to God that she was found alive and in good health. The community has since rallied around the ward head to provide care for the infant, with several residents offering support.
Danladi called for continued prayers and assistance to ensure the well-being of the child. The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and are working to identify the mother.
