The Kano State Government has launched an operation to demolish illegal structures erected on government-owned land across the state.
The initiative, led by the Kano State Task Force on Development Control, focuses on buildings constructed without the required permits.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kwankwasiya city, Hameed Sidi, the secretary of the task force, explained that the exercise is part of the state’s broader efforts to reclaim and protect public spaces for developmental purposes.
“We are committed to restoring order and ensuring that public land is used for its intended purpose,” Sidi stated. He noted that the task force had identified more than 10 illegal structures at Kwankwasiya city alone.
Sidi added that the operation would target areas identified as hotspots for unauthorized construction, ensuring that all encroachments are addressed. He also confirmed that affected property owners were given adequate notice to vacate the premises before the demolitions began.
The secretary emphasized that the task force’s efforts would continue until all illegal structures were removed, reinforcing the need for compliance with land use laws.
Sidi also urged residents to visit the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to update their old land title documents. “The recertification will ensure the accuracy and security of land records, protect investments, and help resolve disputes,” he said. He encouraged landowners to promptly comply with the process.
As part of the operation, the task force demolished a duplex in Guringawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, and marked additional plots and houses to halt further construction.
