The Kano State Government has launched a comprehensive verification and registration initiative targeting all foreign nationals and their businesses operating within the state.

The initiative, led by the Committee of Experts on Expatriates under the Secretary to the State Government, aims to bolster security and ensure regulatory compliance.

In a statement on Sunday, the committeeโ€™s Media Officer, Yakasai, emphasized that the program is designed to โ€œsanitise and secure the business environment.โ€ He added, โ€œThis exercise is essential for the stateโ€™s security and for safeguarding the legitimate business interests of both expatriates and the local community.โ€

The committee praised the expatriate community at the Kantin Kwari Market, many of whom have already cooperated with the verification process. โ€œThe committee extends its gratitude to these individuals and businesses for their proactive compliance, stressing that their cooperation is vital for maintaining a safe and business-friendly environment in Kano State,โ€ Yakasai said.

According to the statement, the ongoing exercise aligns with the governmentโ€™s broader commitment to transparency, business integrity, and economic stability. It involves collecting accurate data on expatriate businesses, identifying regulatory gaps, and improving coordination between the government and expatriate communities.

Yakasai highlighted that the verification would cover essential areas, including registration documents, permits, and compliance with local laws. โ€œThe committee will continue to engage with expatriates across Kano State in the coming weeks, offering guidance to ensure a smooth registration process,โ€ he noted.

The government encouraged all expatriates to cooperate fully, as their participation strengthens the โ€œinclusive, secure, and prosperous environmentโ€ that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf envisions for Kano.

โ€œBy cooperating with this exercise, expatriates contribute to a well-regulated and thriving business ecosystem that benefits everyone in Kano,โ€ the statement concluded.
