The Nigerian Army has initiated an investigation into allegations that a Brigade Commander in Kano State diverted palliatives intended for soldiers.

This development follows media reports regarding the detention of the former 3 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, who is accused of misappropriating rice and illegally selling government properties.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that Brigadier General Sadiq is currently under military investigation for administrative discrepancies during his tenure as the Commander of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

While the statement did not explicitly confirm his detention, it noted that he has been relieved of his command to facilitate a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.

“The Nigerian Army, being a self-regulatory institution founded on the bedrock of discipline, justice, and accountability, has zero tolerance for indiscipline and will therefore not condone any form of misconduct or illicit actions and inactions that could undermine the threshold of its values and principles,” Major General Nwachukwu stated.

He assured both internal and external audiences that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, emphasizing that appropriate administrative actions will be taken based on the findings. “Our commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency remains unwavering,” he added.

Furthermore, he stressed that “we guarantee that the process will be fair, impartial, and in line with our established procedures,” reinforcing the Army’s dedication to accountability within its ranks.
