A Kano Upper Shari’a Court in Shahuci has summoned Senator Ibrahim Shekarau concerning a disputed plot of land he donated to an Islamic school in Sabuwar Gandu, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The former governor reportedly gifted the land to Imam Maliki bn Anas Litahfizul Qur’an Wattarbiyya Watta’alim during its 2021 graduation ceremony, which was attended by the Emir of Bichi and other notable government officials.

However, members of Shekarau’s immediate family, who were entrusted with the land, expressed reservations about the donation and allegedly sold the property to a private individual.

Parents and teachers of the Islamic school subsequently filed a complaint, urging the court to return the land donated by the senator. The school presented a letter signed by Shekarau on August 14, 2021, confirming the donation.

During a previous court session, Khadi Muhammad Sani Abdullahi suggested reconciliation, but the defendants reportedly showed no interest.

The complainants’ counsel, Barrister Hussain Muhammad Makari, requested the court to summon Shekarau as the principal party in the matter and to ensure the appearance of other individuals implicated in the case.

The court adjourned the matter until December 17, when the summons is expected to be served to all respondents.
