Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has called on all 44 local government chairmen in the state to remain in their respective areas and address challenges to ensure effective governance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a workshop for local government chairmen, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), and secretaries, Gwarzo, who also serves as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stressed the importance of leadership and accountability.

A statement by the deputy governor’s Press Secretary, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, revealed that the workshop, themed “Leadership and Professional Ethics,” was organised by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).
The event aimed to equip local government administrators with the skills and tools to make integrity-driven decisions for their communities.
“Local governments are the backbone of democracy, and your actions and decisions directly impact your communities, the state, and the nation,” Gwarzo told the participants. He also urged them to network, share knowledge, and adopt best practices to improve grassroots governance.
The deputy governor assured the participants of his commitment to supporting the development of Kano’s 44 local government areas. He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising human capital development, particularly at the local level.
Chief Dr. Yomi Charles, a project consultant from ASCON, highlighted the workshop’s focus areas, including “Conflict Management” and “Qualities of a Leader.” He noted that conflict is inevitable in administration and advised leaders to develop skills for managing disputes transparently and accountably.
Zubairu Hamza Masu, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed satisfaction with the workshop’s proceedings. Speaking on behalf of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, Masu called for similar workshops involving House members and local government officials to enhance smooth administration in the state.
Participants also shared their experiences during the workshop. Dr. Mani Tsoho, Chairman of Gwarzo LGA, appreciated the Ministry and consultants for focusing on conflict resolution.
Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, Chairman of Tudun Wada LGA, said, “I have gained valuable knowledge on securing and applying for development projects to benefit my community.”
The chairmen of Warawa and Dambatta LGAs commended the initiative and pledged to implement the insights gained to improve governance and service delivery in their areas.
