According to a statement from Usman Gwadabe, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano Government House, Governor Yusuf personally donated N2 million to the fund, with the remaining N10 million contributed by the 44 local government councils in the state.
Speaking at the event, the governor, represented by the Director-General of Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (rtd.), acknowledged the immense sacrifice of the fallen heroes and the bravery of those still involved in Internal Security Operations. “We appreciate the sacrifice of the fallen heroes and those who are currently engaged in Internal Security Operations, particularly the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry in some parts of the country,” Yusuf said.
The governor reassured the people of Kano that his administration is committed to prioritizing security, ensuring the safety of lives and property, and maintaining the state’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country. He also called for greater support for the veterans, urging all stakeholders to “support and participate in the Legion’s initiatives in areas such as transportation, agriculture, and housing development to improve the living conditions of the veterans.”
Governor Yusuf further encouraged the public to “procure and wear the emblems with pride to show solidarity with those who laid down their lives for the peace of our fatherland.”
In addition to the state government’s contributions, AVM Umaru (rtd.) made a personal donation of N300,000 to the fund. He appealed to both the state government and wealthy individuals to support veterans with empowerment schemes, rehabilitation of the State Legion’s Secretariat, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing their well-being.

The Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy each donated N500,000, while the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services contributed N250,000. Other donations included N100,000 each from the NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Brigadier General Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (rtd.), Commandant of the State Taskforce on Phone Snatching and Drug Abuse.
