Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has pledged unwavering support to the Association of Kano Online Journalists (ASKOJ) in their battle against fake news and commitment to upholding the press’s credibility in the State.

During a courtesy visit to the Governor’s office, the Commissioner of Information, Halilu Baba Dantiye, conveyed the Governor’s message to ASKOJ members.

The Commissioner emphasized the State Government’s commitment to assist ASKOJ in their efforts stating that “The new administration will support the association in all areas it requires interventions, urging the members to reciprocate such gesture with regular publicity of the government’s activities.”

“The role of digital journalists in information dissemination is pivotal to the promotion of the Kano State Government’s programs,” he added.

The Acting Chairman of ASKOJ, Yakubu Salisu, expressed the association’s primary mission during the visit stating that “The association was born out of the need to tackle merchants of fake news and restore credibility to online journalism in the state as well as an umbrella for its members,”

The delegation of ASKOJ were received by the Commissioner for information and senior directors of the Ministry, including Alh. Sani Bashir Yola, Permanent Secretary; Usman Bello, Director of Internal Affairs; and Sani Abba Yola, Director of Special Duties.

With this partnership, it is expected that the credibility of news reporting will be strengthened, ensuring accurate information reaches the citizens.
