The Kano State government has raised the alarm alleging that the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) plans to rig March 18 polls in the state.
The state commissioner for information and internal affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, 16th March, 2023.
The state government says it has received credible information on the planned use of suspected election observers by members of the NNPP in the state to perpetrate a network of election rigging during and after Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
Malam Garba stated that the NNPP has perfected plans to use bogus election observers to infiltrate polling centers to influence unsuspecting voters and collation centers with a view to having access to the place to commit election malfeasance.
He stated that, out of desperation, the NNPP has cloned the identities of accredited observers by the independent national electoral commission (INEC) for more than 150 of its members in the metropolitan area to execute the reprehensible act.
Malam Garba therefore called on the public to report any of these imposters to the police and also called on security agencies to decisively deal with the situation.
