The Kano State Ministry of Health (KSMoH) in collaboration with the Society for Family Health (SFH) and the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) is set to commence the distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) in the state on November 10th 2022.

This was made known earlier this week in a media parley organized by SFH where select media organizations were engaged in a roundtable discussion on the importance of the media in the malaria awareness campaign process.

While highlighting the importance of the media to the malaria campaign, Dr Ernest Nwokolo the project director, global fund malaria project of the SFH said the partnership between the press and SFH was keen to the campaign realizing an enhanced result.

“We want a continuous collaboration with the media so that the message of malaria control will reach the grassroots. We believe that we can realise our goals through concerted effort and multiple approaches.” He said.

Consequently, Ms Sesugh Oryiman, the Demand Creation Representative of SFH said certain false rumours about the ITNs made people use alternative measures, stressing that sleeping under a treated mosquito net remains the best way to combat malaria in the society.

“The ITN distribution is going to be house-to-house so we need people to be present to receive the mosquito nets while our various teams carry out the distribution process from the 10th-21st November 2022.

“Town announcers will visit major communities in the state to inform the populace about the distribution of the ITNs, thus we need people to be available to receive the nets. Individuals should ensure that they discard their old mosquito nets and efficiently use the new ones distributed to them.”  She said.
