The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has recently approved the removal of the Chief Medical Officers from three hospitals, namely Imam Wali General Hospital, Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital, with immediate effect.

Dr. Mansur Nagoda, the Executive Secretary of the Board, also approved the suspension of all doctors and nurses who were on duty during the evening and night shifts on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

According to a statement released by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Sulaiman, the decision was taken in response to the negligence exhibited by the affected staff.

The personnel absconded from their duty posts, leaving patients in the care of students.

The Executive Secretary emphasized that negligence, late-coming, and absconding from duty posts by medical workers would not be tolerated.

He warned that any individual found wanting would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the civil service rules and regulations.

The statement urged other hospitals to enhance their performance, as close monitoring of all facilities would be in place to revitalize the state’s health sector.
