Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated an 18-member committee to oversee the second phase of the Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, aimed at supporting 1,001 first-class graduates in pursuing master’s degrees at top public and private universities across Nigeria.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the initiative is part of the governorโs vision to provide world-class educational opportunities for Kano’s youth.

The scholarship programme is designed to empower the brightest minds in the state, allowing them to compete on a global scale.
Governor Yusuf, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, reaffirmed his administrationโs commitment to fostering academic excellence and youth empowerment. โWhen we launched the 1001 Scholarship Scheme, our vision was to empower Kanoโs brightest minds to compete globally, excel in their fields, and bring their expertise back home to drive the progress of our state,โ he said.
He emphasized that todayโs event reflects the governmentโs dedication to providing exceptional educational opportunities for the youth of Kano.
The governor assured that the programme would be transparent, inclusive, and free from political influence, stressing the importance of education as a critical investment for the stateโs future. He pledged continuous financial support and a fair selection process to ensure the programmeโs success.
The newly formed committee, chaired by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, is tasked with ensuring the smooth implementation of the scholarship programme. Dr. Kofarmata assured that the committee would maintain fairness, transparency, and diligence in selecting deserving candidates.
He also shared that 40% of the 478 beneficiaries from the first batch have already completed their studies and are awaiting results. Interested students will be able to apply for the scholarship, after which the committee will rigorously screen candidates for admission into reputable institutions across Nigeria.
