A member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Aliyu Sani Madaki, is under heavy criticism after a video emerged online, revealing him handling stacks of cash worth millions of Naira in his living room.

The footage, which has since gone viral, shows Madaki, who represents the Dala federal constituency under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), sorting bundles of ₦1,000 notes alongside two unidentified individuals.

The display of cash has sparked widespread outrage, especially amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges. Many social media users took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their displeasure, accusing the lawmaker of insensitivity and being out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

With cash scarcity still affecting many, a social media user, Pure Stanley, questioned how Madaki was able to access such a large sum when banks are limiting withdrawals for customers.

“Almost all the banks in Nigeria are not dispensing more than N20,000 to N50,000 to their customers, yet Aliyu Madaki has over N50-80 million in cash at his house. How?! Which bank dispensed the money to him? And what does he want to use the money for? These are the kinds of people occupying our wheels of power and steadily impoverishing this country,” Stanley remarked.

Another user, Engr Y G, raised concerns about transparency and accountability, writing, “It’s alarming to see politicians like Aliyu Sani Madaki in office. This image of him surrounded by cash is sparking outrage, raising questions about how he intends to account for these funds.”

A critic identified as Allpower belongstoGod expressed frustration over the situation, saying, “These people are the reason we don’t see cash easily anymore. Just imagine, and yet poverty in that region is extremely high.”

Similarly, BABBA AGK doubted the lawmaker’s explanation for the large sum, commenting, “I don’t believe Aliyu Sani Madaki can claim this huge amount of money is for a constituency project.”
