A young man, Adamu Mainasara, has been arraigned before Magistrates’ Court No. 4 in Gyadi Gyadi, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, for allegedly attempting to set himself on fire.
Mainasara allegedly went to Dangwauro, on the outskirts of Kano, where he doused himself in petrol and tried to ignite the fire. However, he was stopped and arrested by the police before he could carry out the act.

Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, Mainasara explained that his actions were meant to send a message to a wealthy close relative, accusing the individual of not providing financial support to his family.
In court, Barrister Wahida Isma’il, representing the state, read the charges against him. Mainasara pleaded not guilty, maintaining that his intention was merely to communicate his frustration.
The presiding judge, Justice Rakiya Lami Sani, ordered his remand in a correctional facility until November 20, 2024, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution
