Kano state ministry of information has kick started the campaign to repel behavioral attitudes that are responsible for the rising trends of the recorded cases of malnutrition in the state.
The state commissioner for information, Mallam Mohammed Garba Tuesday said it is now an undeniable fact that the state must proceed to stage communication strategic approach to help fight the menace of malnutrition.
The commissioner, who spoke during an advocacy meeting with members of Civil Society Scalling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria, CS-SUNN, in his office , on Tuesday said “We will henceforth adopt social behavioral change communication on nutrition.
The commissioner, who was represented at the meeting by the permanent secretary, ministry of information, Usman Bala Muhammad lamented that, stunting is systematically destroying the future generation of Kano population , Nigeria and the globe.
Bala said “Nutrition problems are been ignored, people are more concerned with their physical health challenges and well being. Malnutrition is causing more damage in Nigeria.
“We are the most populous state in Nigeria, but with 37 percent stunted children out of our mass population, then we need to act fast or these number of our population will become wasted, then they become being not useful to themselves and to our society.
“The ministry is part of the nutrition action plan and we are very much aware that nutrition is multi sectorial, we will now create a budget line for nutrition in the ministry.
“Further also the ministry will assign a desk officer for nutrition communication, for monitoring and analyzing the situation as we progress.” Usman averred.
He called for the deployment of advocacy tools to help vulnerable persons to identify and harness their local resources to equip them to conquer malnutrition.
