In a demonstration of commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, a donation of assorted learning materials has been made to the Kano State Ministry of Education.
The initiative aims to support educational development and address critical needs in the state’s education sector.
In a statement made available to news men, the Commissioner of Education, Hon Umar Haruna Doguwa, expressed gratitude for the donation during the handover of the learning materials at the premises of Gidan Murtala.
The commissioner highlighted the positive impact of such gestures on the ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the education sector, which remains a priority for the present administration.
The commissioner emphasized the urgency of collective action to address the challenges the sector has faced.
He stressed that concerted efforts are essential to rectify the existing setbacks and underscored the necessity for collaborative engagement.
Noting the potential for others to emulate this initiative, Hon. Haruna Doguwa shared his hope that other banks and corporate entities operating within Kano would take inspiration from this endeavor and contribute towards enhancing education in the state.
He assured that the materials would be distributed fairly to deserving beneficiaries, with a strong commitment to avoiding any diversion from their intended purpose.
He said ” No son of Governor, Commissioner, senior government officials or Directors will be given this materials but the children of the masses that really need them in our schools. I will monitor the distribution excercise and who ever is found diverting them, will be dealt with decisively” he asserted.”
The learning materials donated includes 40,000 exercise books, 600 cartons of chalk, 20,000 pens, 130,000 pencils, 27,000 erasers, 15,000 sharpeners, 3,000 rulers, and 3,000 mathematical sets.
The donation was presented by the Northern Regional Director of Zenith bank, Dr. Sani Yahaya, who highlighted the contribution is in line with the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Adding that it stands as an exemplar of partnership between the public and private sectors, and it is hoped that others will be inspired to join hands in supporting education.
