Kano PDP commits to 35% Affirmative on Women Participation in Politics – Shehu Wada Sagagi

The Kano state chapter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated commitment to facilitate the realization of 35%
affirmative action on political positions given to women.

The party Chairman Hon. Shehu Wada Sagagi revealed this while receiving the delegation from an International NGO that promotes women participation in politics named the Hundred (100) Women Lobby Group who were on a strategic advocacy visit to the party headquarters at Lugard Avenue in Kano.

Alh. Shehu Sagagi said gone were days when men were even appointed as women leaders in political party executive positions.

“PDP has mainstreamed women in various structures of the party leadership, our party constitution has made it mandatory for inclusion of women as EXCO and party delegates”

“We will not relegate women to only positions in the party, PDP has created an enabling environment for women to aspire elective positions and we have it as a policy to make all forms available for them free of charge”

Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of the 100 Women Lobby Group Dr. Zainab Abba Gwadabe sought for the support of the party in ensuring that capable women of substance are given the much needed enabling environment to participate in politics irrespective of gender differences.

Dr. Zainab assured the group’s social, physical and financial supports where necessary for women aspiring to hold political positions in the next general elections.

100 Women Lobby Group is a nonprofit organization that galvanize the support of oppion leaders and community gatekeepers to promote inclusion of female gender in political activities in Nigeria.
