The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, has raised concerns about the increasing number of homicide cases in the state, citing incidents resulting from fights, stabbings, drownings, and flood-related deaths.
The alarming trend, according to a statement by the Commissioner’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, has led to significant loss of life, leaving many families and communities in distress.

In response, the Kano State Police Command has intensified its efforts by increasing patrols and surveillance in areas identified as high-risk. The police are also working closely with community leaders and stakeholders to address the underlying causes of these disturbing incidents.
“The Kano State Police Command has observed a disturbing and alarming trend of increased cases of culpable homicide resulting from fighting, stabbing with knives, drowning in water, and flood-related death. These incidents have resulted in the loss of precious lives, leaving families and communities devastated,” the statement read.
CP Garba urged residents to practice caution and avoid violent behaviors in their daily interactions to prevent further incidents. He also appealed to parents and guardians to counsel their children on the dangers of engaging in violence and the severe consequences that follow.
The statement also advised the public to avoid carrying dangerous weapons, stay clear of flooded areas, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
CP Garba stressed the importance of public cooperation in preventing further loss of life and maintaining peace in Kano State.
