Kano police arraign 104 alleged hoodlums caught with dangerous weapons

The Kano state police command has arraigned a total of 104 suspected hoodlums who were arrested across different parts of the state during the Eid-el-fitr festivities.

Daily News 24 reports that the alleged thugs were accused of trying to cause trouble at the traditional royal horse -riding events across the five emirates of Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Gaya and Rano.

In a post on his Facebook page, the spokesman of the state’s police command SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the suspects were charged to court following discreet investigation.

According to Mr Kiyawa, following the investigation, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel ordered the suspects’ arraignment in Magistrate Court numbers 25, 41 and 70, all in Nomansland area of the state.

Recently, Kano has experienced a resurgence of thuggery in some nehgbourhoods, particularly Dorayi community, where residents were intimidated and attacked by hoodlums.

The resurgence of hooliganism or Daba is coming months after the state’s police command initiated a program where recalcitrant thugs were invited for dialogue.

The move has seen the purported repentance of some of the urchins, leading to the recruitment of about 50 of them into the constabulary positions within the police.

However, the success of the dialogue is yet to be established considering the rise in crimes associated with the ‘Yan Daba criminal gangs.
