Gundura, a 24-year-old who has been on the police watchlist, is alleged to have been involved in violent incidents throughout Kano’s metropolitan area. Among the accusations against him is an attack on a Vigilante Commander, where he reportedly inflicted severe injuries, including cutting off the officer’s hand. He is also implicated in the vandalism of a police vehicle in a separate incident.
According to the Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the operation was initiated under the directive of Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo Garba, who instructed all Tactical Commanders to increase their efforts against thuggery by expanding intelligence-gathering measures and maintaining round-the-clock patrols. “The diligent efforts of the Command send a clear message that thuggery and other violent criminal activities will not be tolerated in the state,” the statement emphasized, underscoring the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
The suspects are currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. CP Garba praised the cooperation of Kano residents and encouraged ongoing public vigilance, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to local police stations.
