After days of heat, Kano state, Northwest Nigeria, has experienced its first rainfall.
Daily News 24 reports that Kano and Jigawa states joined other Northern states to experience the rains.
The rain fell in Kano in the evening hours of Wednesday 13th April 2022.
Though it was not heavy and not witnessed in some parts of the state, it brought a big hope for better weather to the residents, especially Muslims who fast during Ramadan.
Before the rains, the weather was hot and equally pressing for some.
Kano residents, especially children, dance in the rains to rejoice in its arrival.
“I like to play in the rain because I don’t feel heat or get dirty. It has been a long time since we played in the rain and so I’m happy the rain is falling”. One of the children said.
A resident, Mrs Amina, expressed joy saying, “It feels good to look towards sleeping on a cool weathered home once more. Heat in Kano is extreme for my family and me that o started fearing for meningitis, Alhamdulilah for this opening rainfall”.
One characteristic of the first rainfall is the distinctive earthly scent hitting the nostrils.
