The Kano state government has called for increased support from development partners to propel the state forward, particularly in education sector.
Alh. Umar Haruna Doguwa, the State Commissioner for Education, made this appeal during a visit to Smart School, Tarda, which was constructed by the Federal government and equipped by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Highlighting the importance of education in driving a knowledge-based economy, Alh. Umar Haruna emphasized the necessity of assistance from donor agencies to ensure Kano keeps pace with global trends.
He said, “We have several challenges on the ground, but we must not be left behind in using education to develop our economy. In this regard, we need the support of KOICA and similar agencies to forge ahead.”
Acknowledging the diverse challenges facing the education sector in Kano, the Commissioner stressed the significance of collaboration with development partners.
He urged unity among stakeholders, stating, “We should not allow insignificant differences to affect our progress as a state, the state is far more important than our differences. We, therefore, must join hands and with the support of development partners, we can achieve our educational goals.”
During the visit, the Commissioner expressed gratitude to KOICA for equipping the Smart School with digital teaching and learning tools.
He also appreciated the agency’s sponsorship of selected teachers for a three-week training in Korea.
This collaboration not only strengthens the friendship between Nigeria and Korea but also complements the administration’s efforts to enhance the state’s educational standards.
Professor Sungil Sun, the Country Director of KOICA, expressed admiration for the commitment of the Kano state government in managing the Smart School.
He commended Malam Maikudi Al-Alawi, the headmaster of the school, for his extraordinary dedication in running the institution.
Impressed by the school’s performance, Professor Sun stated that KOICA looks forward to expanding cooperation with the Kano state government in the future.
He said, “Of the six states where the agency is supporting such schools, the one in Kano is the best so far.”
