The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has forged a strategic partnership with the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) with a primary focus on agricultural mechanization.
The collaboration aims to significantly enhance productivity and sustainability within the grains value chain intervention, revolutionizing the agricultural landscape in the region.
“We want a situation whereby our farmers will be doing farming as a business and not just to feed themselves. This cannot be achieved without the support of financial institutions,” stressed Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, the State Project Coordinator.
He underlined the critical importance of private and financial sector involvement, empowering farmers to access credit facilities and essential support for their ventures.
During a recent visit to the KSADP office in Kano, Dr. Mel Olouch, Director for Strategic Partnership at SAA, lauded the project’s remarkable impact and urged the Kano state government to capitalize on its success in garnering additional development support.
“KSADP will fold up in the next two years, so we need to start thinking two years in advance. There is a lot of money set aside by international donors to support agricultural development in Africa, and the government can leverage the goodwill created by KSADP to attract more funds to the state,” he proposed.
Looking to the future, Dr. Olouch advocated for a strategic meeting between SAA and KSADP to prioritize areas for scaling up achievements through their technical cooperation. With a shared vision and joint efforts, KSADP and SAA are poised to revolutionize the agricultural landscape in Kano, paving the way for sustained prosperity and bolstered food security for small holder farmers.
