Kano State government has begun the enrolment of vulnerable groups into its healthcare programme under the state’s Contributory Healthcare programme.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa stated this on Saturday when he visited the Mariri Internally Displaced Persons camp on Saturday.
The visit was part of activities marking the state’s Universal Health Coverage Day.
Tsanyawa also visited Nassarawa Children’s Home in Kano to enroll new intakes into the vulnerable group healthcare programme in the contributory healthcare scheme.
“This is to enable vulnerable people to benefit from the programme.
“Government has special regards for children of internally-displaced persons, children’s homes, Torrey homes and for persons in rehabilitation centres,’’ he said.
The commissioner stressed that government had provided funds for the enrolment of vulnerable people into the scheme to give them access to free healthcare.
Primary health centres of the homes, he said, would be upgraded to provide adequate healthcare for resident children.
Tsanyawa commended management and staff of the homes for their efforts in rendering quality services to the children and urged them to sustain the tempo.
In their responses, Principal of Mariri IDP camp school, Engr. Hassan Haruna and the Director of the Children’s Home, Mrs Hadiza Rabiu respectively, commended the state government for the gesture.
The commissioner also presented food and non-food items to the children’s home.
