Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has declared Monday, July 8, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year, 1446 AH.

In a statement issued by Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Honourable Commissioner of Information, Governor Yusuf urged the people of Kano State to use this holiday as an opportunity to reflect on the past year and engage in activities that are mutually beneficial. He emphasized the importance of finding ways to bring relief to the community during these challenging times.

“The government will continue to implement policies and programs designed to empower individuals to become self-dependent,” said the governor. He encouraged the Muslim Ummah to intensify their prayers for ongoing peace and progress in the state.

Governor Yusuf expressed his optimism that, with the prayers and support of the people, his administration could transform the state’s fortunes and restore its status as the most economically prosperous among its peers in the nation.

Federal Government declares June 12 public holiday for Democracy Day

Earlier, Daily News 24 reported that the Federal Government declared Wednesday, June 12, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, congratulated Nigerians on the celebration.

“As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible entity,” the statement read.

Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in upholding the tenets of democratic governance. He also highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to implementing positive reforms aimed at reviving the nation’s economy and enhancing security.

“The minister also called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress that has been made and look forward to a better future for Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement added.
