The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced a 24-hour curfew today, following the hijacking of peaceful protests by thugs and hoodlums who embarked on looting, vandalization of properties, and the maiming of innocent citizens.
The governor had initially commended the peaceful protesters who exercised their constitutional right to voice their concerns but regretted that the protest was marred by violence and destruction.

The governor assured citizens that the curfew is intended to protect lives, properties, public assets, places of worship, and business premises. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and work together to maintain peace and harmony in the state.
The governor’s decision comes after a town hall meeting with stakeholders and the submission of protesters’ demands, which he promised to forward to the president.
“After exhaustive deliberations during Emergency State Security council meeting, it was collectively decided that a 24 hour curfew should be put in place to prevent further looting and vandalization of shops, including indiscriminate killing and maiming of innocent citizens.”
The protests, which began peacefully, took a turn for the worse when hoodlums and thugs infiltrated the crowds, causing destruction and chaos. Eyewitnesses reported seeing businesses looted and properties vandalized, with many innocent citizens caught in the crossfire.
The governor stated that he remains resolute in his decision, stating that the safety and security of citizens are his top priorities.
“We will not allow a few selfish individuals and miscreants to divide us or detract us from our shared goals,” he said. “Together, we can overcome all challenges and build a stronger, more resilient Kano State.”
The curfew is currently in effect, with security agencies patrolling the streets to ensure compliance. Citizens are advised to remain indoors and avoid any areas where protests are taking place.
