The Kano State Water Board has apologized to residents of the state over its failure to fulfil its pledge of restoring water supply to many parts of the city.
Daily News 24 reports that following months of severe water scarcity, the Managing Director of the board, Engr. Garba Ahmed Bichi, had on Sunday promised to restore water to a number of communities in the state last Monday.
Mr Bichi said the board had succeeded in repairing some of the water pumping machines that would be used to supply the water to the communities.
Some of the communities include Naibawa, Unguwa Uku, Medile, Shagari Quarters, Kundila, AKTH, Tarauni, Sheka, Gyadi Gyadi, Parts of Nassarawa and Cikin Gari.
However, the board failed to restore the water supply four days after the MD’s pledge.
In an interview with Nasara Radio Kano, the MD lamented that the scarcity of water in some parts of the state was a result of the failure of some generators in the Tamburawa water plant to work effectively.
“We are working hard to make sure water supplies reach each and every house in Kano.
“We can’t say exactly when the water will start running back to the affected areas now to avoid what happened last week, where we said water supply would be back on or before Monday, but due to unforseen circumstances, the water doesn’t run back to those listed areas.

“We regret the inconvenience this information has caused. But I would assure you that we’re working hard to ensure the water comes back running in no time.”
Earlier on, the managing director said that the issue they’re facing now is the Tamburawa water plant, as some of its engines developed some technical failures that needed to be properly managed before they bounced back to life and worked efficiently for the general public.
“All these areas that are now experiencing shortages of supply or no supply are under the Tambura water plant as a result of the heavy maintenance going on there.”
The MD added that, while there are a lot of mixed reactions among the populace about Dala and some of its environs not getting water supply,
He said, “Yes, for long we have not been supplying Dala and some communities around it with water. But very soon the people of these wards would start receiving water supply, as we’re already working to repair the Goron Dutse water reservoir.”
The MD also commended the effort of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf for repairing the Watari water plant, which provides water to some parts of the Kano south, including Kurna, Bachirawa, and Rijiyar Lemon that were cut up for a long .
According to him, this water plant has been closed for some years without functioning properly, until the coming of this administration, when it was repaired and maintained for use.
He explained that Kurna and some parts of Rijiyar Lemo haven’t been getting water supply for the past 15 years, but with the repair of the Watari water plant, these areas are now enjoying water supply.
