The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) successfully hosted the 22nd edition of its annual inter-secondary school ICT quiz competition in Kano, with approximately 17 schools participating in the event.

The competition, which took place on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Mahmud Tukur Theatre of Bayero University Kano, brought together some of the brightest young minds in Kano to compete in a battle of wits and technological expertise.

Isah Garba, representing CITAD’s Executive Director Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, highlighted to Daily News 24 some of the main goals of the quiz competition. These objectives include promoting the integration of ICT into school curricula, ensuring adequate infrastructure to support ICT education, and addressing the technological disparity between the regions of the country. Furthermore, he revealed that the competition aims to prepare students for future careers in the IT industry by providing them with essential skills and knowledge.

He appealed to the government to take the quiz competition under its wing, broadening its scope and integrating it into the students’ extracurricular programs. By doing so, the competition can nurture a new crop of computer whizzes, as many participants have the potential to become tomorrow’s tech trailblazers.

In the competition, Sani Bello College emerged as the champion, taking home a brand-new laptop as the first prize. New Girls Science College, Kano, secured the second position, winning a three-in-one desktop computer, while Government Science Technical College claimed the third spot, receiving a public address system.

Additionally, scholarships were awarded to participating students and teachers for a four-month diploma course in ICT at the Intersystem Institute of Information Technology, Kano.
