The Kano State House of Assembly has announced plans to conduct house censuses, numbering, and street naming across all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in 2025.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Alhaji Aminu Sa’adu, on Monday during a discussion with the Assembly’s press crew.

The announcement came after he presented the estimated budget for the LGAs to the House, presided over by Speaker Hon. Ismail Falgore.
Sa’adu explained that the 2025 budget for the LGAs totals approximately N461 billion, with a capital expenditure of N234 billion (51%) and a recurrent expenditure of N226 billion (49%). He emphasized that part of the allocated funds would go toward acquiring new and improved seedlings to support agricultural practices and enhance food security.
Additionally, funds were earmarked for street naming and house numbering to improve population data and address security and emergency needs.
“Following security threats, especially in the northwest, many displaced people are relocating to Kano in large numbers. We need a record of houses in all regions to know who is residing there,” Sa’adu stated. He stressed that the census would provide critical data, making it easier to address security concerns and emergencies. “We want to have a census of houses in each LGA, town, and hamlet, to know who resides there, either as homeowners or tenants.”
Hon. Sa’adu also mentioned that the report recommends the state government and assembly continue to encourage the LGAs to improve their revenue generation efforts.
Regarding the financial autonomy of the LGAs, he noted that they would be given the opportunity to meet the expectations of their people, while ensuring the laws governing the LGAs remain intact.
