The Kano State Government is set to reactivate 21 skill acquisition institutes as part of efforts to engage youths productively and prevent drug abuse.
This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Ibrahim Jibril, during a meeting with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano on Monday.

The commissioner emphasized that the reactivation of these institutes is key to tackling drug-related problems and reducing crime in the state.
Jibril also urged the agency to establish a unit within the Audu Bako State Secretariat to curb drug peddling and abuse in the state.
“The issue of drug abuse among youths in Kano is alarming. We need NDLEA’s presence to mitigate security challenges,” Jibril said.
In response, NDLEA Commandant Mr. Abubakar Ahmad praised the governor’s commitment to addressing the drug crisis, citing the state’s efforts in completing and equipping the abandoned Drug Rehabilitation Centre at the NDLEA command’s headquarters. He also noted the governor’s recent visit to the Kiru Reformatory as a step in the right direction for the state’s anti-drug campaign.
Ahmad added that the collaboration between the state government and NDLEA would be crucial in combating drug abuse and its effects on Kano communities.
